I read that media matters story and I'm still trying to figure out why that makes him a "douchebag." Okay, he said that there are people who hate America and he was making the point that they tend to be part of the "hollywood scene" that is unfortunately (he even said unfortunately) being tormented by fires at the present moment.
What's funny is that Media Matters even put the quote in context because they think that makes it worse. But he was saying that just because you're a dem or liberal, he doesn't think you hate America. However, there are people who do hate America (which you can't really disagree with.)
I agree it wasn't the best thing to say, but it wasn't really that bad.

That deplorable man plus a Nancy Grace CG peeking out from the corner of that image is a little too much for me to handle.
I don't think it's the forest fire comment so much as the complete disregard for logical argument progression and his inability to tie his thoughts together. He makes sweeping statements and draws conclusions that barely scrape upon previous thoughts... especially the whole policies vs. principles bit.
